Ward (R.A.H.): A Watchmaker's Pocket Book
O/P. 5 pages, 1971. A report, in a volume of Transactions of the Historic Society of Lancashire & Cheshire, on the discovery of the pocket book of Richard Wright, a Lancashire watch movement maker, containing accounts and other entries covering the years 1713 to 1756. Ward, an out-worker, did work for several London makers including Ellicott and Windmills. Wright was probably resident in or near to Great Sankey, a township near Warrington. Very good copy. O/P. Two articles of 13 pages and 10 pages respectively, illustrated, 2003. Two interesting papers, published in two issues of Antiquarian Horology about the famous clockmaker John Holmes. These are the only articles written about Holmes' life and work that I know of. Very good copy, soft covers. (Ref: K5033)

The Collected Works was edited by C. Hutton and published in 1792. The Observations on the Ventilation of Rooms was completed by R. Willan, from John Whitehurst's unfinished manuscript, and published in 1794.
Bound in at the front of the book is a one-page handwritten manuscript letter by John Whitehurst, signed by him and dated 27(?) August 1787. The book is in very good condition, now re-backed with the original spine laid down, using new end papers and the original cloth covered boards (binding tight, light wear to cloth edges, corners a little bumped).

There are interesting sections on Lincolnshire clock case makers, regional stylistic features of longcases and clockmakers' wills. A very useful addition to the regional literature as nothing else exists for the county. A new copy (old stock) of the soft covers edition, still in publishers shrink wrap. (Ref: N324)
