The Antiquorum auction catalogue for 14 April 1991 with good descriptions and illustrations of 204 clocks, watches and marine chronometers, with interesting biographies for many of the original purchasers. [Antiquorum]: The Longitude at the Eve of the Third Millenium
O/P. A sale of important precision timekeepers - marine chronometers, regulators, watches - and documents relating to the discovery of the longitude. 75 lots all illustrated in colour, the most important being an 8-day marine timekeeper by Henry Sully - probably the third he made and one of only two known to have survived. This item, called Pendule à Levier by Sully, was made in 1724 and is extensively described and illustrated. Other items in the sale included an exceptional chronometer wristwatch by F.P. Journe, a pocket watch by George Daniels, several marine chronometers by Breguet and the first lever watch made by Joseph Emery. Hardback catalogue, very good condition. O/P. 553 lots, all illustrated in colour. A wide range of fine pocket watches, wristwatches, with a few small clocks and singing bird boxes. One notable item was a rare grande sonnerie pocket watch by W.G. schoof of Clerkenwell. The jewellery sale included a collection of walking sticks. Very good copy, card covers. [Antiquorum]: Professor Thomas Engel Collection - Part 1
O/P. 133 lots, most illustrated in colour. Professor Thomas Engel's collection was mainly pocket watches but this auction also included a few wristwatches, books, horological tools, marine chronometers and several Breguet manuscripts. Pocket and wristwatches by Breguet was one of the collections strengths and perhaps the star of the collection was a one-minute flying tourbillon pocket chronometer made in 1927 by Alfred Helwig.
