Henry Williams Lancarvan 'A Clock and Watchmaker and a Great Farmer' Edward Cloutman & Bill Linnard
O/P. A detailed study of the life and work of Henry Williams (1727 - 1790) who made good quality longcase clocks in the Vale of Glamorgan. As with many provincial clockmakers, Williams was also a farmer hence the book's sub-title. A fine copy with very good dust jacket.

This is a large and comprehensive work with a wealth of illustrations. Volume 3 also has chapters on clocks from the Netherlands, Belgium, England, Scotland, Ireland, the United States and Canada. An essential book for collectors of French decorative clocks with lots of illustrations. Since the publisher died some years ago this book has become very hard to find and the English language version (as here) even more so. This is a very very good set, see website for further details.

O/P. The first edition of this celebrated work by Thomas Reid, the famous Edinburgh clock and watch maker. The book is a comprehensive treatise on clocks, watches and chronometers with information on orreries and turret clocks. A very good copy with a little dust staining to the edges of some pages, the plates in good condition. Very good modern binding with leather spine and marbled boards (bookplate inside front cover)

A good provincial mahogany longcase clock which shows the phases of the moon. It is signed on the silvered chapter ring Foden, Congleton.
The mahogany and mahogany veneered case has decorative arcading and dentil moulding at the top of the trunk and above the dial, with 3 brass ball and eagle finials.
Height including finials, 7' 5".
